The Hits were originally formed in 2011 through the magical workings of Criagslist, upon the first meeting there was an instant connection between the three original members, Kristen, Jayne and Molly, they started writing original music as a 3 piece for a few months and then started making their way through the Denver music scene, playing shows and building relationships with local venues and other bands!
For a solid year or so The Hits continued to play shows at venues such as, The Gothic, Herman’s Hideaway, Moes BBQ, Illegal Pete’s, Lions Lair, Walnut Room, Benders Tavern, Lost Lake, @cheers, Lamier Lounge and many more! They have shared the stage with many of Denver’s best musicians, Lola Black, Resonance, No Fair Fights, No One Left Standing, The Symbols, and many many more!
In 2012 they decided it was time to add a fourth member, Miss Nicole Boisvert joined The Hits as their permanent bass player and immediately jumped into the music and began writing songs of her own which later have become of their favorites. They took a small break from playing so many shows and really focused on writing a full length album, once completed it was time to hit the studio and lay down all the tracks. In July of 2013 was their release of their first self titled album, recorded at Black and Bluhm Studio. The CD release show was at Herman’s Hideaway, a favorite venue of The Hits where they shared the stage with Rachel and The Kings and some of their other favorite local bands!
After a few months of the CD being out The Hits went through some member changes and decided to part ways with singer Jayne in the beginning of 2013. Remaining members, Nicole, Kristen and Molly kept writing music for months and months without a singer. Once they had a decent amount of new songs written they felt it was time to go on the hunt for a new front person and guitar player. Not too long into the search did they find Mia Klosterman, her goofy personality and powerful voice won them over immediately! Pretty much around the same time they also found Kimber Swier as their second guitar player. Kimber brought a different sound to the music, a slight grunge sound is exactly what they were looking for and Kimber came with that full force and a book of original music! They knew right away this was going to be a good mix of musicians and they were going to tackle the music scene with their new music and new members!
They didn’t wait too long after finding Mia and Kimber to begin playing shows again, in the beginning of 2014 they had their debut at their favorite venue, Herman’s Hideaway and had the pleasure of sharing the stage with Lola Black, a Denver known favorite! Just shortly after a year of playing with the new line up it was time for Miss Molly (lead guitarist) to parts ways with The Hits, this was a tuff one for the girls because original members Kristen and Nicole had grown so close with Molly but she left on good terms and Molly is still a good friend of The Hits and often comes to shows!
So there they were, back at it again, looking for another member to fill the spot. This time it took a much longer to find the right person to fill this spot. Apparently Denver has a shortage on female lead guitarists and finding the right person was almost something they were ready to admit they might not find. It wasn’t until about Sept of 2015 did they finally find the girl they were looking for. After one audition with the lovely Tara Stef the girls knew she would be the one to join them in this next chapter!
Many bands go through changes and members, this has not just been a change over the years, it has been a complete evolvement into something that is purely magical. The Hits have been able to collectively write music together, as a band and as a unit since 2011 but only recently with addition of Tara has everything come full circle and feels fully complete!
With this new 5 piece awesomness of contagious female rock, they decided it was time to hit the studio again and recorded some of their favorite songs for their EP! The EP, titled Revived was released in June 2016 and the girls played to a sold out show at Lost Lake in Denver.
In March of 2017 the girls were notifed by singer Mia that it was time for her to part ways and focus on her other life goals, sad to see her go but excited for another chpater of The HITS.
It was in April 2017 we found our new lead vocalist Amber Gusack, Amber brings a fun energetic energy to the band and is a complete joy to watch on stage and fits in perfectly with the girls, the chemistry is on point and excudes through each performance. Amber writes lyrically as well as plays keyboard! They will be hitting the studio again later this year to complete their full album and will have a release date later in 2017!
This group of girls is so much fun to watch on stage, their individual styles are all so different yet when combined with each other there is a beautiful blend of contagious female rock that happens, music that gets your head bobbin and your feet grooving. Make sure to keep an eye on these ladies as we are sure you will be seeing them at a Denver music venue near you!!
