Biography
Think King Crimson and At the Drive-In while listening to the first three Tool records and you might have an idea of where this is going. Of course, you might hear other influences like: Mozart, Jethro Tull, Pink Floyd, Helmet, Butthole Surfers, Soundgarden, Nirvana, Melvins, Fantomas, Faith No More, Mike Patton, Talking Heads, King Crimson, Les Claypool and his many excursions, Buckethead, Modest Mouse, Rush, Jane’s Addiction, Ween, Frank Zappa, Alice in Chains, Radiohead, Soul Coughing, Simian, Beach Boys, The Mars Volta, and Primus.

yerkish (yĆ»rksh) n. – An artificial language using geometric forms to represent words, created for experimental communication between chimpanzees and humans

As their name proclaims, Denver art rock band Yerkish doles out their own form of experimental communication: Intricate composition and profound lyrics commingled with intense on-stage energy and a literal barrage of projected imagery. A live show is riveting, inspirational, and rarely experienced the same way by any two people.

Formed in 2005, this quartet has filled many Denver venues, including: The Gothic Theatre, Herman’s Hideaway, The Oriental Theatre, The Toad Tavern, The Cricket on the Hill, The Walnut Room and The Soiled Dove Underground. The band has shared these stages with popular rock and art rock bands such as Banyan, Detroit Cobras, Super 400, Ours, The Skivies, New Ancient Astronauts, Vices I Admire, Meniskus, Redline Defiance, and many more.

Their first EP, vignettes, illustrated the band’s ability to sneak undetected into the realms of popular rock, while still maintaining the inventive nature of their craft. When the band became more recognized and appreciated for their edgier, less formulaic music, it seemed only appropriate to record their second EP, The Return of Douglas Jupitor. This sophomore release exhibited the band’s ability to take their expansive set of influences and skillfully weave them together.

Despite some growing pains with members having come and gone, Yerkish plunges fervently on with three of its original members (Ryan Eschenbach, Nate Huisgen, Tim Kaminski) and one new addition, Brent Moran. Incessant and intrepid, Yerkish has high expectations for 2008 with the release of their first full length album “Fear Conquers America.”
