The Jimi Austin

A diversity of backgrounds both musical and geographic is, in part, responsible for the strange brew that the jimi austin pours out when they play. The indie-rock foursome, based out of Fort Collins, CO formed in early 2005 and has since been developing their sound & honing in their live show. Democracy within the band has allowed for a nice balance between freedom of expression and common ground. After extensive touring in 2007, The Jimi Austin released a 3 song E.P. entitled “Draw Your Lines”. It was recorded live, mixed and mastered in 3 days at The Blasting Room with Jason Livermore. The E.P. has received very positive press and is now available online in The Jimi Austin Store below!
“Post-punk sneer at its surly finest…incredibly tight and well-produced…the guitar tones are just sick. Catchy melodies, nice cadences, just good shit all around.”John Wenzel, The Denver Post
”... it’s clear that the players get what their music should be about and what they want it to sound like…you’ll hear ghosts of At the Drive-In, Led Zeppelin and Jimi Hendrix in the three songs on this EP, especially in ‘Hairspray’ and ‘Nonsense.’ Draw Your Lines moves boldly forward with aggressive atmospherics and fiery, sharp rhythms.”Tom Murphy, The Westword
”...excellent musicianship and sharp, creative song structures… the band has a remarkably fresh, invigorating sound…” Kurt Brighton, The Fort Collins Weekly
”... the songwriting has subtle eerie southern undertones, but by the time you’ve grabbed on to one, it melts back into their signature sound of anti-genre rock. Not only is it textured with layers of guitars and lo-fi sounds, but the songwriting is immaculate.” Chris Kampfe, Scene Magazine
”... you’ve probably come to know and crave the lamenting wail of The Jimi Austin’s Chris Anderson. The band’s fairly heavy; a bit eerie yet suprisingly pop-ie creations are somewhat of a local guilty pleasure.” Andra Coberly, The Fort Collins Weekly
“The songs are fresh, original and very well crafted…The Jimi Austin is one of my favorite new bands.” Brice Hancock, The DENVER MESSAGE BOARD
“One of the best up and coming bands in Northern Colorado… a new direction and a fresh sound!” Andy Blanton, 88.9 KRFC FM
“DAMN FINE, FUN, GOOD ROCK N’ ROLL!” Mathew Martin, 90.5 KCSU FM
“The Jimi Austin recorded their debut album East of Liam at the Blasting Room, and the result is certifiably indie rocktastic: angular guitars, tricky time changes, and vocals that reach for Thom Yorke’s melodrama and Britt Daniel’s too-cool-for-school.” ~Elliott Johnston, The Rocky Mountain Chronicle
