The Build Up

The Build-Up formed in Denver in November 2007; the original line-up consisted of Chris, Everett, Brian, Alex and local punk-rock legend Heather Dalton on lead vocals. While some folk-background members of the group are primarily focused on the lyrical aspects of the songs, their instrumentation has been unique, including the standard bass, guitar, and drums, as well as trumpets, trombones, violins, hooters, and glockenspiels. The original incarnation of the group recorded the Punching Towards the Morning Light EP in February 2008 (available on iTunes and Amazon). In early September 2008 Alex Junaid and Heather Dalton left the band amicably, and Julia Harvey joined on violin.
Since May 2008 The Build-Up has gigged continuously throughout the Denver area. In August of 2008 their song Box of Plastic was featured in KBDI’s coverage of the Democratic National Convention; ironically the song is about the numbing effects of television and our nations dependence upon it. A recent Donnybrook review of the group had this to say: Their lyrics are folk-inspired ballads that reveal gifted storytelling and emotional resonance. Their sound is indie that metamorphosizes to rock mid-song hence their name: The Build-Up. Their songs indeed build from winsome indie to blistering screaming rock. Theres not a band in Denver that does it better.
