Guru was the first Hip Hop artist to actually blend Hip Hop with Live Jazz beginning in 1993 with his groundbreaking Hip Hop/Jazz series entitled Jazzmatazz of which he has released 4 acclaimed volumes.
On Jazzmatazz Guru has collaborated with everyone from Jazz greats such as Donald Byrd, Herbie Hancock, Roy Ayers, David Sanborn, Ramsey Lewis, Bob James, Ronny Jordan, Courtney Pine etc, to world renown soul vocalists such as Chaka Khan, Erykah Badu, Angie Stone, Jamiriquai, Caron Wheeler, Omar, Macy Gray etc, to well known Hip Hop and Reggae artists such as Common, Damian Marley and many more.
Guru has always been a classic innovator as when he founded the group GangStarr, and now the Hip Hop Icon has partnered with NYC’s brightest producer Solar to form the successful boutique label 7 Grand Records.
The most recent releases from Guru and Solar – Guru’s Jazzmatazz The Timebomb Back To The Future as well as Jazzmatazz Vol 4: The Hip Hop Jazz Messenger – have generated a vibrant new audience worldwide and due to Solar’s innovative, brilliant musical concepts, have reinvigorated and energized the Jazzmatazz legacy.
Through these well respected classic musical projects and a critically acclaimed live show, Guru and Solar have developed 7 Grand Records not only to be a successful boutique label but also now a movement which has hundreds of thousands of members around the globe.
The 5 man live show, produced and arranged by Solar, features Guru and Solar on vocals and the 7 Grand Players which include the mixtape legend Dj Doo Wop, as well as an accomplished Jazz trumpeter and a talented multiinstrumentalist.
