Die Pilot

Voted best ‘up-and-coming band’(1) in Denver,CO for 2006, (die) Pilot has evolved from the vision of folk singer/songwriter and Kentuckian Eugene Brown to the self described “dreamy alternative with an indie-rock edge” that it has become.(die) Pilot has found its place in the whos-who of the booming rock scene that is Denver and all the while breaking out onto an international audience.
Started in late 2002 and shaped during and after Brown’s tumultuous time in Northern Kentucky, (die) Pilot found its provenance by swinging some traditional songwriting bats. However, as has been the history of the human sensory filter; even the most traditional of education becomes warped, and made unique, in the hands of every different man. And with (die) Pilot, the story is the same, for awhile there are evident sounds of familiar notes of history (folk/country,rock,new wave, punk, electronic), but the idiosyncrasies are overwhelming and authentic. In the end, analogous to (die) Pilot’ s final tale: The here and now.
Immediately after arriving in Denver, Brown posted an ad looking for musicians to fill his bill. Eventually and somewhat deservingly, Brown’ s call was answered by a producer/instrumentalist. Eventually this provided Brown and (die) Pilot with a gift from the supernatural. They were afforded a house in downtown Denver, as well as a studio. And within the year, (die) Pilot had its first full length album, “Radiation, Weather, Art”.
“Radiation, Weather, Art”, voted one of the ‘movers & shakers’(2) in Denver for 2005, is a stunning work in its eerily precision of all studio elements. From the production to the engineering and musicianship, this freshman effort is hailed as ‘addictive’(3), ‘grandiloquently epic’(4), and ‘instantly captivating’(1). Compared to artist from Pink Floyd to Big Star to The Cure and from Snow Patrol to Sun Kil Moon to Bright Eyes (which are all part of the bands influences), the album consists of broad appeal, has received local, national, and international radio airplay/attention, and is available to download off of the bands website www.diepilotmusic.com for free. This, in turn, has landed (die) Pilot in the local spotlight and on a slew of popular regional live shows.Playing at Denver’s most prestigous of venues such as The Gothic Theatre, The Hi-Dive, The Oriental Theatre, and Larimer Lounge, the band has shared the stage with such national acts as Devon Davis(chicago) and The Heavenly States(austraila) as well as some of the best local acts the city has to offer.
With a new line-up of experienced and soul-minded musicians (rock veterans Paul Jansen on violin and Chris Durant on drums), Brown and the boys are geared-up for a new album and a new lease on life. With their unwavering work ethic, (die) Pilot will continue to build on their past, blending modes of spirituality and life into a complex web of death, water, sky, loss, love, and hope… in no particular order.
