Dangerous Nonsense is the brainchild of drummer Sara Miller’s dissatisfaction in both the state of the modern world and in previous musical endeavors. After she and bassist Harmony Davies realized they weren’t content with the simple bom-chicka-baw of a project they had together in the early 2000s, Sara started to work on convincing singer Shannon Webber to share her elitist approach to social justice artistically and to be in a band for the first time, effective January of 2008 (Sara and Harmony have played for years and have been in projects together in the past). One year later, they recorded their first 5-song demo album.

These three bitches have a background in social justice work, which they always bring to the table along with their commitment to living the dream. Dangerous Nonsense effectively smashes the myths about women’s ability to play good, aggressive music. While dedicated to remaining an all-female ensemble, they decided to go without a guitarist after a series of auditions revealed the demanding uniqueness of their approach. Comprised of drums, bass, vocals and the occasional flute, with lyrics that regularly scream about white privilege, incest and neo-liberal globalization, Dangerous Nonsense challenges the listener intellectually, musically and emotionally, but you’ll have a great time at a live show. Though they seem to be going for something esoteric, they accomplish what they attempt in powerful unison.

They support Girls Rock Denver by donating instruments, playing benefit shows, teaching drum technique at the camp this July 27th-August 1st, helping with radical cheerleading workshops and performing for the young campers. They also plan to set up a benefit show for Safehouse Denver in the near future. Currently, the donations they accept for merchandise like clothing and stickers and are going to help a young girl get her own guitar for her stay at Girls Rock Camp. So far, they’ve played at local venues like the Larimer Lounge, the Toad Tavern and the Lion’s Lair, making great friends at each show.
