Carmen Sandim began studying piano at age seven. A native of Brazil, she performed with the Sao Paolo Youth Symphony and won two national competitions in both Brazillian Jazz and classical piano performance categories at age seventeen. She moved to the US in 1996 to continue her training at Berklee College of Music in Boston where she was taught by Vuk Kulenovich, Hal Crook, Ed Tomasi, and others. After graduating Magna Cum Laude, she moved to Washington DC, where she was employed as a music composer for radio and television programs. During her time there, she won several Addy awards for her compositional excellence, co-wrote and arranged an original piano quintet CD, Vista Del Mar, and ran her own music production company, JAM, Just-Add-Music. In 2001, her orchestral composition, We the People, was released internationally by the German publisher SONOTON. One of her most recent projects is a CD of original compositions recorded live a Dazzle. Currently living in Boulder, Colorado, Carmen is a prominent performer and educator. She teaches piano and composition from her home studio, as well as music classes at Naropa University and Metropolitan State College at Denver. Carmen holds a Bachelors degree in film scoring and a Masters degree in jazz performance and pedagogy.
