Backslide

At first glance Backslide may seem like the typical, struggling, corner bar band, but underneath the pop-simple songwriting lays a sonic energy that draws you in like a gathering storm. Their vast sound ventures through rockabilly, reggae beats, blues, rock, and funk, all the while, their lead singer, forges his uniquely distinct melodies around simplistic but taut structures. The band cohesively intermingles darker songwriting elements with rolling, marching rhythms and subdued yet cutting guitar riffs. At once, Backslide can take its listeners down a back, dimly lit alley, “Slide down the hill, a controlled fall into chaos. On a brink to the fall. God, you know it’s gonna hurt.” Then stops at the shack next to the highway with a neon sign that reads ‘Fortune Teller’, “The ball is hazy as I try to scry, these nagging thoughts that make me question: why? When all I wanted were the answers…” And as any good band knows, a good ballad is always a nice touch, “I want to, I got to, do you want to? Could you be touched, so soft, but cannot touch.”
While any band starting out is bound to hit a few bumps on the golden road to the future, these guys have found a way to relax and enjoy the music while learning all those lessons in life. Look for these guys in and around Denver, maybe at that corner bar down the street with the poorly lit alley.
Backslide has been playing to over-capacity basement apartment house parties with questionable electrical safety since 2007.
