Featuring members of: The Frantix, The Fluid, The Choosey Mothers, The Rok Tots, Francis Theory, Slim Cessna’s Auto Club, The Hendersons
The Buckingham Squares are like 6 kids who grew up together listening to the same records: The Stooges, the Pebbles compilations, The Sonics, The Jam, The Monkees, Motown, The Stones and Yardbirds. Then with pawn shop guitars and the support of an exploding punk scene they went their seperate ways to form The Frantix, The Fluid, The Choosey Mothers, The Rok Tots, Francis Theory, Slim Cessna’s Auto Club, The Hendersons and countless other projects. As divergent as their projects were, they kept alive their original love for spirited, soulful and straightforward garage rock and roll.
The boys have circled back around to that smoky basement, kicked a clearing in the beer cans on floor and plugged noisy Vox and Gibsons into Marshalls. With keyboards adding a textural layer and an impassioned lead vocalist, they attack the timeless garage rock they play today with a ferocity that only age and experience can bring. You might recognize some songs from your cool uncle’s record collection, but you’ll recognize them all as being at the heart of punk, pop, psychedelic and any DIY music that’s built on inspiration, perspiration and the desire to get down to the DNA of rock and roll.
The Buckingham Squares are playing live this Friday, September 17, at The Walnut Room.
